The Mulock War is an ongoing conflict between Behind The Masks and The Big 3, originating from the breakdown of diplomatic relations in 2026. The conflict developed from a period of political rivalry, deteriorating alliances, intelligence disputes, and social isolation before escalating into direct confrontation following Operation Night Fury on 31 October 2026.[1]
The war is also known as the Newmarket War, the Mulock Conflict, the Newmarket Cold War (for its indirect phase, June–October 2026) and the October Escalation (for the events of its final weeks). Its two principal commanders are █████ (The Mastermind) (The Mastermind) and █████ (The Director), who exercise joint command of Behind The Masks.
The historical record spans September 2025 to November 2026 and is conventionally divided into nine chapters, from the formation of an original diplomatic network, through the collapse of the April Alliance Treaty in the June 24 Crisis and the Summer Blockade, to the October Realignment and the offensive of 31 October. As of 1 November 2026 the conflict remains unresolved: the two factions remain opposed, no comprehensive peace agreement has been reached, and the consequences of Operation Night Fury are still unfolding.[2]
Names and terminology
The conflict has been referred to by several names. “Mulock War” is the standard designation in the archive. “Newmarket War” and “Mulock Conflict” are common alternatives and are used interchangeably. “Newmarket Cold War” describes the indirect phase between the June 24 Crisis and the opening of direct hostilities, a period characterised by diplomatic isolation, sanctions-like social pressure and intelligence disputes rather than armed confrontation. “October Escalation” refers specifically to the transition triggered by Operation Night Fury.
This article adopts the vocabulary of diplomatic and military history. Interpersonal events preceding the war are described in terms of bilateral relations, strategic partnership, treaty, coalition, realignment, defection, embargo and escalation. Where the sources describe the motives of participants, those motives are presented as claims of the respective parties and not as established fact.
Background
The Mulock War grew out of a small diplomatic network that formed in late 2025 around bilateral communications between █████ (The Mastermind) and █████. The network subsequently widened into a loose coalition. Two organising principles co-existed within it from the outset: an independent orientation, which prized autonomy and personal loyalty, and a coalition orientation, which prized collective standing and managed access. For several months the difference was latent. The archive records no open dispute before 2026.[3]
Historians generally identify three structural causes of the later rupture: the tension between bilateral commitments and multilateral coalition obligations; the rising importance of loyalty and alignment as criteria of political standing; and the absence of any mechanism for adjudicating disputes between members. None of these causes is regarded as sufficient on its own.

Belligerents
Behind The Masks (BTM; alignment: Independent Alliance) is led jointly by █████ (The Mastermind) and █████ (The Director). Its associated figures are █████, █████, █████, █████, █████, █████, █████ and █████. The membership list is open and may be extended.
The Big 3 (alignment: Opposing Coalition) comprises █████, █████, █████, █████ and █████. The name is official and is retained although the coalition contains more than three members.
Chronology
The history of the war is presented in nine chapters. A complete, filterable chronology is available in the Timeline of the Mulock War.
Chapter I: Formation of the Political Order (September–December 2025)
The period is characterised by relative stability and alliance formation. In September 2025 a standing bilateral channel was opened between █████ and █████, and over the following weeks political cooperation between the two deepened. By October a wider social coalition had formed around the original network, drawing in associates who would later be found on both sides of the war.[3]
From the outset the network contained both independent and coalition-oriented structures. The former emphasised personal autonomy and direct bilateral dealing; the latter emphasised collective decision-making and shared access. By December 2025 these differing preferences were apparent but not contested, and the diplomatic conditions that would eventually contribute to the war were in place.

| October 2025 | Formation of the wider social coalition Cooperation widens beyond the bilateral channel into a loose multilateral coalition of associates, the precursor of both later factions. Map: Sir William Mulock Secondary School | Alliance changes | established | |
| December 2025 | Early divergence between independent and coalition-oriented structures Contrasting preferences for independent conduct and for coalition-managed conduct become apparent, though without open dispute. | Political crisis | reported |
Chapter II: Early Political Fractures (January–March 2026)
Tensions inside the wider coalition emerged in January 2026 and indicated that its unity was fragile. In February the coalition experienced the February █████ Crisis, in which █████ was for a period excluded from its affairs. █████ maintained contact with and supported █████ throughout this exclusion, an action that later commentators regarded as formative for the relationship between the two future commanders.[4]
By March 2026 loyalty and political alignment had become decisive criteria within coalition structures, raising the cost of independent conduct.

Chapter III: The April Alliance (17 April – 20 June 2026)
On 17 April 2026 a major bilateral partnership between █████ and █████ was established as the April Alliance Treaty. The treaty formalised and strengthened bilateral relations. Almost immediately, however, the parties are recorded as holding conflicting expectations concerning diplomatic cooperation, and the growing influence of the wider coalition exposed the difference between bilateral diplomacy and multilateral coalition commitments. Several disputes remained unresolved at the time of the June crisis.[5]

| 1–20 June 2026 | Growing coalition influence and unresolved disputes The wider coalition's influence over bilateral matters increases while several disputes remain unresolved. | Political crisis | reported |
Chapter IV: The June Diplomatic Crisis (21–24 June 2026)
The crisis comprised three successive incidents. On 21 June a coalition gathering took place without █████'s participation, triggering a political disagreement (the First Diplomatic Incident). On 22 June █████ initially agreed to attend a coalition gathering but subsequently withdrew without advance notification, increasing tensions (the Restaurant Incident). On 24 June █████ announced the termination of the special bilateral arrangement and proposed maintaining ordinary diplomatic relations. █████ rejected the proposed downgrade, and formal relations collapsed.[6]
The sequence became known as the June 24 Crisis and marks the beginning of the wider Mulock conflict. Accounts of the reasons for each incident differ and are not adjudicated here.

Chapter V: The Summer Blockade (June–August 2026)
Following the rupture, █████ experienced a period of diplomatic isolation. Within the metaphorical vocabulary of the simulation the period is described as an embargo or blockade: political pressure and coalition containment limited █████'s access to former networks. Several former allies realigned; █████ continued to support █████; █████ aligned temporarily with the opposing coalition; and █████ distanced himself from █████. Reports of social pressure and of competing narratives circulated, but the motives of the parties are disputed and are not treated as established fact.[7]
In the same months the independent identity of the group around █████ strengthened, and by late August the name Behind The Masks was in use.

Chapter VI: The Intelligence Crisis (September–October 2026)
In September 2026 the coalition arrangement deteriorated further. █████ reconsidered his alignment and reopened diplomatic communications with █████, and cooperation was ultimately restored. In October, intelligence disclosures concerning previously unknown coalition activities reached Behind The Masks, and █████ revised his assessment of former allies.[8]

Operation Night Fury altered the strategic balance and brought the conflict into a new phase. As of 1 November 2026 the conflict remains unresolved; Behind The Masks and The Big 3 remain opposing factions; no comprehensive peace agreement has been reached; and the consequences of the operation are still unfolding.[2] This article does not describe events after that date.

Operation Night Fury
Operation Night Fury is the central military event of the war. It was conducted on 31 October 2026 as a coordinated multi-front offensive launched from Northern Command Headquarters against Coalition Central Command and the eastern, western and southern positions of The Big 3. Its command structure, phases, and consequences are described in the dedicated article.

Strategic assessment
Analysts characterise the war as an asymmetric contest between an independent alliance with a small, tightly integrated command and a larger coalition with diffuse decision-making. The Summer Blockade demonstrated the coalition's capacity for containment; Operation Night Fury demonstrated the capacity of the independent alliance for coordinated initiative. Neither side has demonstrated the ability to impose a settlement.
- Strength: unknown for both sides.
- Casualties and losses: not established.
- Territorial changes: none established.
- Peace process: none.
Source reliability and historiography
The archive distinguishes three grades of reliability: established (corroborated by the surviving records), reported (recorded in a single account or in intelligence reporting) and disputed (the parties' accounts conflict). The grade of each event appears in the Timeline of the Mulock War. Readers should be particularly cautious regarding the intelligence material of October 2026.
Interpretations of the war divide broadly into a structural school, which emphasises the incompatibility of independent and coalition-oriented politics, and a contingent school, which emphasises the June incidents and the choices made in them.
